Thank you Sheraton Milan Malpensa

Every time the same old story. My flights are always late. Today’s delay is two hours, and I got to the airport with almost two hours to spare so as to avoid the Friday rush-hour traffic, which means I have a four-hour wait ahead.

Botheration! Now what will I do?
I don’t feel like sitting here reading. Neither do I want to wander around the duty free because the shop for the section A departures, domestic flights, is no great shakes. And I have no wish to hop from bar to bar eating and drinking whatever I find.
Hmm!
Perhaps I have thought of the best and most enjoyable thing to do: I’ll go to the Sheraton Milan Malpensa. This majestic modern hotel is right beside the gate and is easy to get to. I’ll have some pampering in the SPA, then nibble something or I’ll stay for a drink.
As I approach the lift, I am already feeling better. I have had an excellent idea.
I go down to level -1 and in minutes I am at the front door of the hotel with the imposing Sheraton sign.
I open it and walk in confidently. I am not in Milan, I could be anywhere in the world. The hall is a large open space with minimalist chairs and sofas. People seated here and there are working on iPads, reading, making phone calls or simply relaxing. Entering, your glance is immediately drawn to the numerous big-screen TVs that constantly update the patrons on the times of all the flights. There are several people at the reception desk: some have just arrived and others are waiting to depart for who knows what destination. I head towards the lifts because the SPA is on the first floor.
There are four, roomy and modern. I go to my floor together with a few guests. They are all foreigners in this hotel. And that makes me feel like I am already on holidays, somewhere on the other side of the world. I have adored this hotel ever since I came to its opening. I also happen to think it should receive an award for its architecture. I love its enormous spaces, the modernity of the furnishings and materials, and its brightness. Its perimeter is practically a single gigantic window. And I also like the international spirit that pervades every part.
I follow the directions to the SPA and, having passed the fitness centre, I reach the reception and ask to go in. Incidentally, the entrance fee is very reasonable. It gives access to the cold fog room, sauna, Turkish bath, sensory showers, a relaxation area with herbal tea bar, and a pool. A gorgeous pool, obviously. And there is a huge window here, too.
The sun is setting. It has been a beautiful June day, the guests are few, and I relax. Unexpectedly.
An hour of bliss. Then, I dress and decide to enjoy some good music in the lounge bar. Tisane and biscuits at hand, I settle down with my iPad. Time flies and if I don’t hurry, I risk missing the flight that was delayed.
I gather my belongings, obviously my suitcase has already boarded, and a moment later I am back in the airport. I make for the departure gate, serene and satisfied.
Thanks you, Sheraton. I am glad you exist. I’ll remember you for future occasions like this.
Actually, maybe in future I’ll leave early on purpose.
