Saudi Arabian Airlines presents sustainable programme

Saudi Arabian Airlines

Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAUDIA) is working on many fronts to protect the environment. Initiatives include the Green Points programme, participation in the Voluntary Carbon Market initiative and the Sustainability Flight Challenge

Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAUDIA) considers the issue of sustainability as an integral part of its corporate strategy. And, in fact, it is engaged in a number of sustainable projects and new green initiatives. Let’s see them!

Green Points Program
SAUDIA was the first to implement Green Points, a program that rewards passengers who are committed to protecting the environment.

By pre-selecting their in-flight meal during check-in, SAUDIA guests can reduce food waste and packaging that ends up in landfills. So in this way the weight of the on-board supplies is also reduced, saving fuel.

The Green Points program offers guests the ability to travel with less baggage, and is encouraged through the awarding of Green Points.

Voluntary Carbon Market Initiative
SAUDIA is the first partner company in the MENA area to participate in the Voluntary Carbon Market initiative launched a year ago.

The project reflects the interest of airlines seeking to reduce their carbon use in small steps. How? Through initiatives and innovations such as the expansion of renewable energies or the promotion of green hydrogen.

Partners in this market are 5 leading Saudi Arabian companies, including the national airline SAUDIA.

Sustainability Flight Challenge
Another sustainable initiative that aims to reduce the production of emissions is the active involvement of customers through their feedback. On flight SV590 from Jeddah to Dubai on October 8, 2022, guests were asked for ideas for greener air travel Passengers and SAUDIA team members collected a total of 150 interesting ideas.

eVTOL
In partnership with Munich-based start-up Lilium, Saudi Arabia is investing in carbon-neutral aviation to promote independence from oil as part of its Vision 2030.

To this end, the Saudi national airline plans to purchase 100 Lilium-Jet electric propelled air taxis.

It will serve seamless point-to-point and hub connections for Business Class customers within Saudi Arabia.

The electric vertical take-off and landing jets have a range of 175 kilometers and can accommodate up to 6 passengers.

Formula E
As the official partner of the premier electric motor racing series Formula E and lead partner of the inaugural SAUDIA Ad Diriyah E-Prix, SAUDIA launched a new campaign this year. Objective? Connecting Formula E fans from around the world and promoting a sustainable sport.

To this end, SAUDIA and its SkyTeam partners will fly to all cities hosting the race next year.

For this sustainable commitment, SAUDIA has recently won numerous awards. In addition to the 2022 AVB award for the most sustainable airline, SAUDIA was awarded in the customer engagement category in the SkyTeam Sustainable Flight Challenge.

The company was also a finalist in 3 other categories. ie greater CO2 reduction on medium-haul routes, lower CO2 emissions in ground handling and better sustainable innovation.
