The Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Resort awarded Green Key Already

Green Key

The Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, the most renowned five-star luxury hotel in Rome, has now been recognized as the first “Green hotel” in the city not only within its own category, but also within all others

The hotel has just received the Green Key certification, granted by the international environmental quality programme promoted by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), recognized by UNESCO as a world leader in the field of environmental education and sustainable development.

Distinguished for its particular focus on sustainable management, the Rome Cavalieri, thanks to the best practices adopted through the guidance of Green Key, has significantly reduced its impact on the environment, reaching an all-time low (compared to the last 10 years) and greatly reducing management costs. 370 rooms, high energy efficiency, excellent waste management, constantly monitoring CO2 emissions, attention to waste, activities and collaborations with numerous local associations in favour of disadvantaged communities, ambitious renovations in progress focused on continuously improving the structure: the Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Resort thus fully enters the hotel network of Green Keys.

“We are truly proud of this recognition” announced Alessandro Cabella, Managing Director of the Rome Cavalieri, “and we will continue to focus our efforts towards an increasingly sustainable and responsible management, hoping to be ambassadors of the values expressed by the Green Key programme throughout the world.”

Giovanna Garofano, Chief Engineer of the Rome Cavalieri, coordinated the team effort of the hotel departments for applying the protocols to protect environmental quality. On behalf of her colleagues, she stated: “With small actions, each of us can do a lot for the planet, but an important certification like the Green Key can only be obtained through teamwork and with the involvement of hotel guests. It was an honour for me to lead this project and I thank my colleagues for the enthusiasm and devotion with which they have implemented the many initiatives put in place with a single common goal: protecting the planet.”

The Green Key programme is a voluntary, ecological standard of excellence recognized by UNWTO (World Tourism Organization), with more than 25 years of experience, assigned to over 3,000 hotels in 57 of the 76 countries where the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) is present.

Green Key certified accommodations are part of a continuously growing international network that identifies themselves as environmentally friendly and focused on promoting sustainability practices in their community. In addition to the Green Key programme, the FEE also supports worldwide including Blue Flag, Eco-Schools, Young Reporters, LEAF and Spighe Verdi.
