On the occasion of World Oceans Day, the Association celebrated its commitment
to protecting the ocean through “Exquisite Fish”

On 8 June, for the third year in a row, Relais & Châteaux celebrated World Oceans Day, an event promoted by the UN focussed on the importance of the ocean and its protection; for the occasion, Relais & Châteaux Chefs all over the world, in partnership with Ethic Ocean, offered menus based on sustainable fish. The ocean can be considered our “universal larder”, from which every part of the planet draws nourishment; hence, this is the right moment for Relais & Châteaux to pay homage to the sea and increase the general awareness of the role each of us plays in the ecosystem, through the event called “Exquisite Fish”.

The fragile balance of the ocean is being destroyed day by day: 31% of the planet’s fish resources is overfished and 58% is completely exploited (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, 2016). However, through the choice of sustainable species, the promotion of ethical fishing methods, the contribution to local economic development and the offer of seasonal menus, Relais & Châteaux Chefs aim to protect the biodiversity in our oceans and provide quality products to their patrons and the future generations. The Chefs have a key role to play in defining culinary trends and can influence both suppliers and consumers.
