There is no doubt about it: Cortina continues to be the top location for luxury winter holidays. Not only that; luxury snow tourism is a thriving segment and, for the second year in a row, is growing, putting paid to the idea of the crisis.
The figures that emerge from research by World Capital are interesting, and they describe quite an impressive scenario for winter tourism: if you are hankering for a ski holiday or even just a weekend in the most beautiful mountains in Europe, here is the ranking: among the most attractive locations, Cortina d’Ampezzo is confirmed as the most glamorous destination, followed by Madonna di Campiglio and Courmayeur.
Luxury holidays are increasingly popular, and there is a significant rise in the number of luxury hotel chains interested in taking over the management of mountain hotels. Italy has major brands like Leading Hotels of The World in Selva di Valgardena, a Relais & Chateau in Ortisei and a Design Hotel in La Thuile.
The coming season will see prestigious new 5-star hotels opening in Courmayeur, Pinzolo and Cortina d’Ampezzo.
There are other unmissable 5-star hotels just across the border, too: the European locality with the highest concentration of luxury hotels in the Alps is St. Moritz, followed by Courchevel, both of which have 4 Leading Hotels of The World, a well-established brand in Switzerland with no fewer than 10 facilities (in St. Moritz, Zermatt, Gstaad and Crans Montana). Still in St. Moritz, there is also a Kempinski, which joins the one already present in Kitzbuhel in Austria, while Davos has an Intercontinental and a Steigenberger.
