*S.Project: the spaces of tomorrow
At its third edition, S.Project has once again brought a heterogeneous offer to the fair that helps to imagine what the domestic spaces of tomorrow will be like. Password: multi-sector. And this is how many different proposals – fabrics, wellness products, indoor and outdoor furnishings, lighting, acoustic solutions, but also coatings and finishes – are involuntarily linked by common themes.
Walking among the various stands, one could not help but notice an ever greater commitment to sustainability. And the S.Project exhibitors are no different. In fact, many solutions try to reduce co2 emissions and the improper use of raw materials, including water. As well as the search for new sustainable material solutions.
This year another common thread of the new collections of the exhibiting brands was colour: furnishings, products and fabrics that want to excite and surprise. Bright colors, lacquers, silver threads and golden products, the desire to be daring is back, to celebrate color to give a new look to one’s spaces.
*Venini
This year Venini has expanded its presence between the Salone del Mobile and Euroluce with 2 scenographic installations, created by Studio Marco Piva, to present the new products in an unusual combination of glass and light, once again reconfirming the brand as an icon of international excellence in Murano Artglass and Artlight.
Inside Pavilion 7 of Rho Fiera Milano, the historic glass factory has proposed a stand characterized by wavy external walls that recall the magical shapes of the iconic Fazzoletto vase.
The stand had an exhibition layout aimed at highlighting historical products and novelties, unique creations between art and design displayed in showcases, some facing the external corridors and others distributed within the space for a more precise account of shapes, processes and textures .
Also present in the exhibition is a selection of unique archive pieces by Alessandro Mendini, Ettore Sottsass and Tadao Ando.
Instead, the stand inside Euroluce was like a theatrical place in which to immerse yourself in the Venini Luce universe. The imposing Balloton chandelier, 4 meters high and made up of more than 600 spherical pieces of different sizes and colors, is of great impact.
The central area was surrounded by various thematic sections in which the “Luce Venini” is declined in the crystal, in the colour, in the shapes and textures born from the creativity of the many excellent artists and designers who have designed for Venini.
Both stands were colored in “Rosso Venezia” and enriched by LED light trails.
Among the proposals presented: Fazzoletto Volante, Poliedro-Tech, Magenta by Venini – re-editions of historical pieces with the Art Direction of Studio Marco Piva; the Incanto Disc, Incanto Box, Venini Eyes, Venini Moons, Alieno, Ballerina, Bloom collections – designed by Marco Piva; Bean, Gran Bulbo and Cilindro – signed by Peter Marino.
*Arte Brotto
With over half a century of artisan experience, for the 2023 edition of the Salone del Mobile it summed up its way of understanding wood in the theme of the Senses.
In fact, Arte Brotto interpreting the Senses, has made wood the ideal element for precious tailoring, of recognized value.
The innovations on display were:
- LIFE: the modular walk-in closet in real wood, customizable with shelves and drawers, with rounded corners and transparent openings that make it functional both for the living area and for the relaxation areas of the bedroom.
- URBAN H: the boiserie in gray Eucalyptus wood that transforms from a refined cladding into storage. A modular system capable of fulfilling multiple functions by organizing spaces with tailor-made solutions.
- TRUE: the iconic table, one of a kind and different every time because it is made with two twin solid wood tables obtained from the central section of the same trunk. In oiled Walnut wood with custom base (in titanium travertine marble) it gives, with its uniqueness, an exclusive character to the environment.
- PRINCIPE: the collection signed by the architect Marco Piva, an admirable synthesis of form and function and a concrete expression of the absolute quality of walnut wood, but also fine leathers and fabrics.
- LEONARDO: furniture made entirely of walnut or solid oak from European forests managed correctly and responsibly. Ethical and aesthetic choice, which prefers natural vegetable oils and handcrafted joints. The Leonardo 2023 novelty are the bed headboards made of wainscoting.
- RELEVO: the extraordinary collection of boiseries, the range of modular panels in Walnut or Oak designed to cover walls and furnishing elements with extraordinary three-dimensional effects, obtained through the processing of solid wood.
*Euroluce
Euroluce is the biennial event focused on the sources of inspiration that look at the design dimension of light. The International Lighting Exhibition this year celebrated its 31st edition with a new exhibition layout designed by Lombardini22.
In fact, Euroluce 2023 has taken on a circular pattern, presenting a more fluid path that also leaves room for the areas dedicated to cultural events. Among the various products on display, a great boost in terms of modularity, compositional freedom and personalization was immediately noticed. In addition to a more holistic approach to design, capable of blurring the line between decorative and technical lighting.
The variety of proposals at Euroluce 2023 rang from novelties in terms of lighting fixtures for outdoor, indoor, industrial, for events, for the hospital sector to those regarding lighting and home automation systems, light sources and software for light technologies.
Euroluce 2023 has confirmed itself as an avant-garde event also in the field of sustainability and energy saving. In fact, LED sources with low consumption and high efficiency are increasingly widespread.
*Workplace 3.0
First there was the office, then the pandemic, with its home working. Today the workspace is a perfect hybrid between these 2 situations. In other words, home comfort can no longer be lacking in the office, just as professional furnishings to support work can no longer be lacking at home.
The classic meeting tables and desk chairs are now joined by comfortable armchairs, chaise longues, seating islands and even ping pong tables for both indoors and outdoors. Here’s what we saw at Workplace 3.0.
There are many companies that have decided to adopt the same degrees of comfort used for the home in the upholstered furniture of office or contract spaces.
The idea is to reduce the distance between the domestic space and the work space, focusing on the psychophysical well-being of the worker who must find himself in a state of physical and mental comfort in order to be able to give his best.
There are many modular solutions for transforming individual armchairs into large resting islands to stimulate meetings, or for transforming them from workstations to chaise longues for relaxing.
It becomes essential to be able to stay comfortable and flexible without compromising aesthetics: this is where the new tables with invisible ups and downs technologies and office chairs with refined finishes come in handy.
*Salone Satellite
The Salone Satellite, founded by Marva Griffin in 1998, is the space of the Salone del Mobile dedicated to the meeting between young designers and businesses. This edition was particularly rich with the creations of 550 under35 designers from 31 countries and the presence of 28 design schools and universities from 18 countries.
In fact, the choice of the theme for this edition, “Design Schools – Universities / BUILDING THE (IM)POSSIBLE Process, Progress, Practice“, is not accidental, which, through the works of the graduates-to-be students, intended to answer the question: “Design: WHERE ARE YOU GOING?”. Therefore to new approaches to respond to the important challenges that environmental, economic and social changes are leading us to face.
Among the schools, POLI.Design played at home – it is the Department dedicated to Design of the Milan Polytechnic. He proposed a curious multimedia system which, through a colored lens, a rudimentary hearing aid and the floor covered with the QrCodes of the students’ projects, attempted to answer the question “Design: WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO?”.
The same was done by the DAE, Design Academy Eindhoven, with an experimental live radio which broadcast debates organized by the students for the entire duration of the Salone del Mobile.Milano.
