Rome has a new symbol of luxury: it is Hotel de la Ville, the iconic 18th century palazzo
set for all the world like a gem on top of Trinità dei Monti
It was eagerly awaited, and the result exceeded all expectations. Hotel de la Ville, the new jewel in the Rocco Forte Hotels collection, is the epitome of luxury and the most sophisticated elegance. And more. It is also a tribute to the “grande bellezza” of Italy, to the most refined taste that the whole world envies us.
As Sir Rocco Forte comments: “Rome will always be one of the best destinations in the world, both for business travellers and for tourists. It represents the complexities and the wonders of Italy down through the centuries, while managing to be perfectly contemporary at the same time. We are extremely proud of Hotel de la Ville, it encapsulates all the liveliness and style of this extraordinary city.”
Housed in an 18th-century palazzo at the top of the Spanish Steps of Trinità dei Monti, the 5-star hotel celebrates the Grand Tour of the 1700s. Hence, guests are invited to partake in a playful voyage of discovery of the facilities. The common areas and the rooms have actually been completely redesigned by Tommaso Ziffer together with Olga Polizzi – the group’s director of design.
Working in close collaboration with local craftspeople, the designers enhanced the building’s historical heritage with hand-made wallpaper by Rubelli and Deda, rich Italian fabrics, and historic tapestries by Zardi & Zardi.
The 104 rooms and suites, which are extremely elegant and among the most spacious in the capital, offer large terraces with stunning views. On the 8th floor, the marvellous Suite De La Ville – accessed by a private lift – is the jewel in the hotel’s crown. It is furnished with a discerning selection that combines antique and modern furnishings, preserves an art collection and offers 2 private panoramic terraces.
The inner courtyard embodies Italian exuberance and spirit. George Carter – a designer specialised in the creation of gardens – has entirely reworked the space that merges 3 edifices into one, incorporating elements that evoke the theme of the Grand Tour. And so there are obelisks, a palette of green-black and gold that bestows a mystical and romantic atmosphere and soft lighting that evokes ancient candlelit spaces.
As always, the F&B offer is supervised by Fulvio Pierangelini, creative director of food for Rocco Forte, and is aimed at conquering the most exacting palates with the eclectic menus of 6 restaurants and bars. The fare ranges from the great classics of Italian tradition in the Mosaico gourmet restaurant to contemporary reinterpretations where Mediterranean products are to the fore in Sistina restaurant.
Julep Bar places the emphasis on quality mixology with a list of classic and innovative cocktails, while the Cielo rooftop bar enchants guests with carefully designed proposals and the breath-taking view over the rooftops of Rome.
The heart of the hotel is the Rocco Forte Spa, covering 550 square metres. It is actually one of the most advanced wellness centres in the capital thanks to protocols based on innovative Irene Forte Skincare products.
