Antigua and Barbuda Art Week 2024: the annual celebration of Caribbean art presents unmissable events where tradition and modernity meet,
highlighting local talent and offering a unique opportunity to explore the vibrant cultural landscape of the Twin Islands

 

The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority announces the second edition of the Antigua and Barbuda Art Week 2024, which will take place from 27 November to 3 December 2024. A week dedicated to the arts that celebrates the vibrant creative scene of Antigua and Barbuda, with brilliant visual arts to the rhythms of live performances, which attests to the destination as a true cultural gem in the Caribbean.

 

Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Tourism, the Honorable Charles Fernandez, said: “Art Week is an extraordinary opportunity to highlight the talent and creativity thriving in Antigua and Barbuda. We are happy to share our culture and artistic diversity with the world. We create a space for our artists to shine and offer engaging artistic experiences to our visitors.”

 

During this special week, visitors will be able to admire the works of emerging and established artists. More than 20 talents will present their creations, highlighting the country’s unique capabilities. Participants include: Heather Doram MFA GCM, Stephen Murphy, Gilly Gobinet, Kelly Hull, Vincent Pryce Zifah, Maritza Martin, Carol Gordon-Goodwin, Simone Gordon, Wakida Joseph, Anfrenette Joseph, Faye Edwards, Artsy Yaadie (Stacie Shaw), Zoë Carlton, Makŏ Williams, Candi Coates, Glenroy Aaron, Mark Brown, Emile Hill, Dylan Elias Phillips and Guava De Art. Designers Garrett Argent Javan, Launesha Barnes and Odelia Deazle will also be featured during the week.

 

Heather Doram, MFA, GCM, a leading Antiguan artist and central figure in promoting Antigua and Barbuda Art Week 2024, commented: “I can’t wait for Art Week to begin here in Antigua and Barbuda. I am delighted that artists and creatives will be celebrated during this eventful week and that this festival has now become an important event in our calendar. Welcome everyone!”

Visitors during this unique week will have the opportunity to explore different artistic forms through guided tours, workshops and interactive sessions with the artists.

“Antigua and Barbuda Art Week is truly a celebration of our nation’s artists, ranging from young emerging talents to established professionals,” said Maria Blackman, Marketing Communications Manager of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority and member of the Art Week committee . “During the event, you can expect to see eco-friendly artworks, fashion creations from young local designers, immerse yourself in our music and dance, discover hidden galleries, experience art through mixology, admire the beauty of the works made with tamarind and jumbie seeds, buy unique pieces of art and crafts. Art Week 2024 will be an unmissable opportunity to live a rich and engaging experience, we are very excited to welcome everyone who will participate.”

 

Highlights

Exhibitions and Galleries: A wide range of works, including paintings, sculptures, carvings and installations, will be displayed in galleries and public spaces across the islands.
Workshops: led by local artists, to learn new techniques and immerse yourself in the creative process and cultural heritage of the country.
Art Talks: discussions with artists and experts to delve deeper into the world of art in Antigua and Barbuda.
Live artistic performances: live performances of music, dance and spoken word.
Painting Sessions: Sip and paint events that combine the creativity of painting with the art of mixology.
Artistic Tours: guided tours across the islands, with visits to the homes and galleries of the artists in which to discover their works.
Christmas Market: display and sale of local artisan products, perfect for bringing home a travel souvenir.
School Art Competition: starting in September, open to primary and secondary school students. The most deserving works will be exhibited at the V.C. International Airport. Bird.
