According to the first forecast indications provided by the Bilateral Tourism Board of Lazio, Christmas and New Year’s Eve in Rome will respectively mark +30% and +20% in arrivals compared to 2023.
So everything’s fine? Not exactly.
In fact, the president of Federalberghi Roma Giuseppe Roscioli commented on the capital’s 2023 tourism trend, underlining the positive aspects, but also noting the persistence of some crucial critical issues.
“In terms of numbers we can only be satisfied. Rome has confirmed a trend of strong attractiveness thanks to the commitment of the Administration, and in particular of the Tourism Department, in proposing a constant flow of new visit opportunities with a succession of attractive events.
Furthermore, the openings of new and prestigious hotel facilities are helping to raise the overall level of the offering.
On the other hand, we must note the persistence of some shadows, and this in spite of the bad defeat of Expo 2030, an event that would have contributed to changing the very face of Rome, as well as creating a very notable tourism industry,
if we had managed to win it. I am referring not only to the unexpected increase in the living tax a few months ago, which penalized our newfound competitive capacity on an international level, but also to the situations currently pending, to be clarified as soon as possible, which have recently connected.
Finally, the regulation of short-term rentals, the legislation of which is slow in arriving and what’s more appears to be inspired by an approach that is far too timid and permissive towards a phenomenon that contains very serious pockets of fiscal irregularity and alters the very loyalty of the market in very concrete terms”.
