The Hotel Innovation Barometer provides a unique snapshot of the level of innovation maturity in the hotel industry. It also serves as a benchmarking tool to identify a hotel company’s position relative to the rest of the market
It provides an in-depth qualitative analysis of the state of innovation in the hotel sector, focusing on technology, digitalization and the importance of applying key concepts such as training.
We are talking about the first Hotel Innovation Barometer, an analysis promoted by ILUNION Hotels and Les Roches Global Hospitality Education.
That is, one of the world’s leading institutions in hospitality management and luxury tourism education.
The pioneering study, carried out in collaboration between the 2 organizations, provides a comprehensive view of how more than 40 international hotel companies of various sizes in Spain and around the world are adopting innovation to improve their competitiveness and meet future market demands.
The analysis evaluated 7 key variables: strategy, technology, structure and processes, ecosystem, culture, competitive intelligence and communication.
The anonymous survey was conducted on CEOs and directors of the Innovation, Technology and Transformation sectors of medium and large hotel companies, using objective metrics. Training and synergies as catalysts for innovation Nearly 60% of respondents said their brand does not allocate any specific budget for innovation.
Among those that do have an innovation budget, most initiatives are led by top managers rather than industry specialists.
The results show that only 25% of companies offer training programs dedicated to innovation.
As highlighted by the qualitative report, innovation goes beyond simple technology. In fact, it is a process that creates value along the entire production chain, with significant room for improvement. Innovation is emerging as a key tool for hotels to anticipate future trends, respond to customer and employee needs, and explore new technologies.
Although most respondents are in favor of collaboration and synergy between companies, the study reveals that about 50% of them are not yet interested in collaborating with startups.
Additionally, more than half of respondents say their companies are proactively applying innovation, aiming to position themselves as market leaders or pioneers in the hotel industry.
However, less than half of participating companies are successfully leveraging innovation insights and information from other industries.
The First Hotel Innovation Barometer shows that while innovation is primarily driven by technology and strategic market alignment, leadership, training and corporate partnerships are still lacking for further evolution.
