Cyber Guru’s advice to protect devices on vacation

Cyber Guru

Cyber attacks on smartphones and computers don’t go on vacation. Hence, Cyber Guru recommends protecting your devices with the same attention we have for our homes. Small tricks are enough to enjoy the summer break without falling victim to cyber criminals

On vacation we finally enjoy relaxation and fun and risk loosening the defenses regarding the security of our data. In fact we think that everything is just a click away, forgetting the risks that hide behind the screens.

Here are the tips from Cyber Guru, an Italian company specializing in Cyber Security Awareness, on behaviors to adopt while traveling to avoid cyber scams.

Be careful in public places
The public and free columns for recharging devices are very attractive. But not everyone knows that using this service can expose us to juice jacking.

It is a form of cyber attack. It takes advantage of the USB port for the purpose of collecting private data from the internal memory or installing malware. How to avoid it? Simple, using a portable charger.

Furthermore, it is always preferable to avoid connecting to public Wi-Fi networks. In fact, even these expose the possibility of being reached by malicious software. With passwords accessible to all, such as those of stations or easily recoverable, such as those of hotel rooms that correspond to the room number, the risk is very high.

Fantasy has no limit even for crime. Indeed, it can make use of a now widespread tool, the QR code. So beware of QRphishing. That is, a strategy that aims to steal sensitive data. For example, credentials for bank accounts. And precisely by leveraging the codes printed on restaurant or bar menus.
