turismo a Roma

On the occasion of the celebration of the thirtieth anniversary at the Salone delle Fontane in Rome, the Bilateral Tourism Authority of Lazio presented the data on employment in the pre and post pandemic sector and those relating to the flows of tourism market in Rome and its province in 2022

What is the trend of tourism in Rome? And of the job supply-demand meeting in the sector following the Covid? The study presented at the Salone delle Fontane in Rome by Ente Bilaterale Turismo del Lazio, the unitary and joint body made up of all the employers’ associations in the sector and the trade union organizations in the sector, answers these questions.

Employment data
The Roma Tre University report “Demand for labor in the tourism sector – comparison before and after the pandemic” examined the trend in employment in the first half of 2022 both nationally and in Lazio, comparing it to 2019, 2020 and 2021.

The research shows that in Italy it is difficult to return to pre-Covid contracting levels, with around 1.4 million in 2022 compared to 1.5 million in 2019 (-7.2%) after the drastic drops in 2020 and 2021.

According to the same trend , in Lazio the approximately 130,000 contracts signed show a -24.2% compared to 2019, although they represent a significant increase compared to the 2020 and 2021 levels.

With regard to the types of contracts, the presence of fixed-term contracts is massive. In fact, they account for 71.7% of the total in Italy and 77.5% in Lazio.

From a gender point of view, the demand for female workers is growing both nationally (483,756 in 2022, + 6.1% compared to 2019) and in Lazio (34,000, + 9.6% compared to 2019). Workers between the ages of 18 and 24 are also growing (+10.7% compared to 2019 at national level) while the ratio between Italian and foreign workers sees the former representing almost 80% of the demand.

Tourist flows and final 2022 forecasts
From January to October 2022 in the accommodation establishments of Rome Capital, the total arrivals were 12,146,139 and the presences 27,712,808. In both cases it is an exponential growth compared to 2021 (when they were, respectively, 3,658,220 and 7,898,280) but which does not yet reach the pre-pandemic results of 2019, on which the recovery is 74.79% for arrivals and 70.83% for attendance.

The Italian demand recorded 6,110,233 arrivals and 13,153.55 6 presences. The foreign demand 6,035,906 arrivals and 14,559,252 presences.

An initial projection on the closing data for the end of 2022 indicates that Rome Capital will close the tourist year with around 15,000,000 arrivals and around 34,460,000 presences. Therefore with a recovery, compared to 2019, of 77.00% of arrivals and 74.00% of presences, an improvement compared to the first 10 months of the year.
