The hotel lift is no longer standard and anonymous but becomes an integral part of the architectural project thanks to Pop Up. The result of the collaboration between CaroppiCaberlon and IGV Group, Pop Up transforms the lift journey into immersion into a dream that makes each guest the protagonist of a great author’s film
Pop Up is the cinema-inspired lift designed by the CaberlonCaroppi studio for IGV Group. “The lift cabin as a design space in which to create a microcosm made of details, games and stimuli”: this is the spirit with which the CaberlonCaroppi studio in Milan designed the second lift of the Ad Hoc line of IGV Group, an Italian company leader in vertical transport.
The elevator becomes a dream tale
Pop Up is just like children’s books that open freeing three-dimensional figures. It is divided into 3 completely different subjects but united by the desire to give personality to an environment that has always been somewhat neglected. Target? Projecting people into a fairytale dream that lasts the time of a short journey.
The first subject, Belle Epoque, expresses a clear reference to the ‘poetics’ of Wes Anderson’s films such as Grand Budapest Hotel. The second, Golden Age, is instead inspired by old black and white films, where the “lift boy” who accompanied the guest to the floor was present in the lift. This elegant space is strongly characterized by a geometric wallpaper (taken from the Eterea collection for Zambaiti Parati) complemented by mirrors and metals that enhance its depth.
For the third subject, Home Sweet Home, the studio conceived a more intimate space, as if the inside of the elevator were a sort of ‘anteroom’ on the floor. Here then is that the walls are decorated with a boiserie enriched with mirrors and frames. The parquet-covered floor then gives warmth to the environment with the presence of a sofa for sitting or placing objects.
Differentiate with creativity
The vocation for the design of common areas is a distinctive element of the CaberlonCaroppi studio which has more than 140 hotels in the world. Ermanno Caroppi: “The idea of furnishing an elevator, of having carte blanche, of trying to interpret a space that has always been a bit taken for granted, was on the one hand fun and on the other a confirmation that more and more companies they aim to differentiate themselves through uniqueness and creativity with interesting projects and new perspectives ”.
Pop Up is part of the Ad Hoc line. It is a new generation of products interpreted by the best-known names in architecture in which the lift becomes a customizable design object. To establish itself in the design segment, IGV Group has chosen Giulio Cappellini as its art director. Architect and talent scout and ambassador of design and Made in Italy will coordinate the project.
