A strong turnout of visitors welcomed the return in the presence of BIT 2022, the reference event for tourism in Italy, which took place from 10 to 12 February at fieramilanocity. Three days of intense networking and presentations of news, characterized by the quality of the proposals of highly profiled exhibitors and buyers
BIT 2022 marked the definitive and long-awaited restart of tourism. The fair registered more than 1,000 exhibitors (15% from abroad from 35 countries). They met highly profiled buyers from all over the world. Furthermore, the great majority of the Italian Regions were present.
BIT 2022: tourism trends
Among the trends that have emerged, here is the metaverse and space travel. But also the confirmation for the next season of slow, ethical and sustainable tourism. One of the key trends of this year are the paths, from the spiritual to the natural ones, with the return of cycle tourism, active and outdoor holidays with a touch of luxury and glamor, as in glamping. The food and wine trend is always very strong, combined with the discovery of villages and history and culture.
The destinations focus on open air
“This return in presence went very well for us – explains the Councilor for Tourism, Sport and Entertainment of the Sicilian Region, Manlio Messina – and in particular our experiential proposals. Starting from food and wine as a leitmotif, we have created cultural and musical itineraries and events, all rooted in history, such as the Sicily Jazz Festival which enhances the legacy of the first musician to record a jazz record, the Sicilian-born American Nick LaRocca ” .
Even among foreign destinations the mood is towards the enhancement of sustainable and responsible tourism. Says Heitor Kadri, Overseas Operation Manager of the Brazilian Agency for the International Promotion of Tourism: “The Italian market is one of our priorities. International tourism is focusing more and more on nature and exploration and, in this context, Brazil has a very relevant offer. But also in history and culture: expressly for BIT we have created a special tour of 10 cities with a strong Italian heritage “.
Operators ready with the new proposals
Among the novelties of this year, the ASTOI Village. It has brought together over 20 leading Tour Operators in a single space.
“BIT was an opportunity to look to the future after long years of waiting. It was a satisfaction to see partners, suppliers, customers, journalists and trade present, also a sign of the desire to find normality, made up of meetings, human and professional relationships ”, comments Alessandro Seghi, Commercial Director of the Tour Operating Division of Alpitour World.
“Here we presented our new villages in Sardinia, Veraclub Amasea and Veraclub Cala Ginepro with significant feedback – adds Stefano Pompili, General Manager of Veratour -. The success of this event can be a good encouragement for the summer season: despite the difficulties we are convinced that 2022 will be a decisive year towards returning to the numbers of three years ago ”.
The desire to travel is back, as confirmed by the trend of two-week bookings – concludes Leonardo Massa, Managing Director of MSC Cruises for the other operators -. Here at BIT we presented the summer with all 19 operational ships, to which MSC World Europa and MSC Seascape will be added in the coming months “.
Buyer looking for new experiences
Also from the buyers’ point of view, there is satisfaction with the return in attendance and attention to the most original proposals. Comments Rena Keberlinskaya of Quintessentially Travel (Azerbaijan): “We are here to look for new products, in particular to explore new Italian regions. Our company mixes different experiences, from leisure to business to incentives, and here I found interesting proposals for all these segments.
The next edition will take place at fieramilanocity from 12 to 14 February 2023.
