Hotel Danieli, Venice, celebrates the Venice Film Festival with an exclusive event in collaboration with Variety. An opportunity to also celebrate the bicentenary of the hotel and Julianne Moore, named president of the Festival jury
It is called CINEMA DANIELI, An unforgettable Love Story and will take place on August 30th in the breathtaking setting of the Terrazza Danieli Restaurant, with a panoramic view of the Venice Lagoon.
The private party conceived by the Hotel Danieli, a Luxury Collection Hotel Venice, Now in its 13th edition, CINEMA DANIELI, An unforgettable Love Story celebrates the inauguration of the 79th Venice Biennale International Film Festival. An edition that sees the collaboration of Variety.
Alberto Fol, Executive Chef of Hotel Danieli’s Terrazza Danieli Restaurant, will pay tribute to Cinema Danieli, the hotel’s legacy of cinema, to its Bicentenary (1822-2022), and to American actress Julianne Moore, Jury President of this year’s Venice Film Festival. Oscar winner (Still Alice, 2014), BAFTA and Emmy Award recipient, Julianne Moore is famous for her versatility and for her many memorable performances in film and television. She is the first American actress to receive the highest awards for acting at the film festivals in Berlin (The Hours, 2002), Cannes (Maps to the Stars, 2014) and Venice (Far from Heaven, 2002).
The menu – a reminder of the Venice of yesteryear
Among the gourmet proposals elaborated by Chef Fol are dishes that recall the Venice of past times, such as a Champagne risotto, Chioggiotta fish soup, and Her Majesty the cod; and the passion that distinguishes the city, such as Poncho of the golden Dolomites, Bellini-style prawns, and Milk cream and red berry gelato. Timeless classics will also feature such as Blinis with sour cream and Calvisius caviar, Foie gras with grape must and flower salad, the famous Sea bass in salt crust with dill-infused juices, and Wellington-style beef fillet.
Roberto Naccari, Head Barman at Hotel Danieli, will accompany Chef Fol’s epicurean creations with two interesting interpretations of mixology. Debuting during the evening will be “Lioness Julianne”, a cocktail inspired by actress Julianne Moore, Jury President of this year’s Venice Film Festival. Denoted by elegant features such as purple hues given by its Briottet violet cream liqueur component, this drink is also nicely refreshing and perky thanks to the addition of Prosecco Superiore Bisol1542 and a touch of fresh squeezed lime. Co-starring during the evening is “Rosso Danieli”, a cocktail that homages the hotel’s 200th anniversary. Inspired by ancient recipes, the Rosso Danieli cocktail combines gin and vermouth with drops of bitters and an infusion of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg, and is topped with mint and orange. The result is an intensely flavoured and aromatic aperitif to be savoured accompanied by the unsurpassed views of the lagoon presented by the magnificent location of Terrazza Danieli Restaurant.
The 79th Venice International Film Festival is organized by La Biennale di Venezia and will be held on the Lido di Venezia from August 31st to September 10th, 2022. The Festival is officially recognised by FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers’ Associations). It cultivates the awareness and promotion of international cinema in all its forms of art, entertainment and industry, in a way that encourages freedom and dialogue. A section of the Festival is dedicated to valorizing the restoration of film classics, an act that contributes to a better understanding of the history of film, and is a particular benefit for young audiences.
From October 2021 to October 2022 Hotel Danieli hosts the celebration of its 200th anniversary. In 1822, Giuseppe Dal Niel, a local businessman, rented part of Palazzo Dandolo, described as “the noblest palace in Venice” for its proud Gothic architecture and for its privileged position overlooking the lagoon, and converted it into a hotel, giving it his own nickname “Danieli “. Hotel Danieli is not just a hotel, rather it is a rare place that embodies, in addition to its 200 year heritage of hotel operations, souls of diverse nature: architecture, art, and the beauty of extraordinary works; cinema, with many memorable films that have been set in its fifteenth-century spaces (to name a few Moonraker – Operation Space (1979) with Roger Moore, The Tourist by Florien Hunckel von Donnersmarck (2010), A Brief Vacation by Vittorio De Sica (1973), Trouble in Paradise by Ernst Lubitsch (1931) and many others); the innumerable stars that have visited the hotel for private moments and social parties (such as those organized by renowned personality Elsa Maxwell); and the legacy of events and historical figures that have made Hotel Danieli protagonist of their love stories. In fact, records narrate that Maria Callas met Aristotle Onassis at Hotel Danieli during one of Maxwell’s famous parties. Their love story is just one of the many that have unfolded, preceded by that of Eleonora Duse and Gabriele D’Annunzio, and in even earlier years, that of the nonconformist French writer George Sand, Alfred De Musset and Pietro Pagello.
Guests at the event will be able to capture their own snapshots at a special selfie corner and share them on social media with the hashtag #cinemadanieli.
Hotel Danieli and Variety thank the sponsors of the event: Cantine Bertani, Conor, Frette, Judith Saint Jermain, Fondaco dei Tedeschi by DFS, Calvisius Caviar and Bisol 1542
