Founded in 1996 by architect Mario Botta, the Mendrisio Academy of Architecture is today an international reference point for the training of future architects.
To celebrate its 25 years of history, it has organized unmissable seminars, meetings and exhibitions. And not just for professionals but for all architecture enthusiasts
The Mendrisio Academy of Architecture welcomes the new director architect Prof. Walter Angonese and presents the 2021/2022 program.
The events of the Mendrisio Academy of Architecture
A first cycle of conferences entitled Visiting Academy [of Architecture] will take place during the first academic semester.
It will be dedicated to getting to know more closely some of the personalities invited in recent years to teach in the design studios of the Mendrisio Academy. And then João Luis Carrilho Da Graca, (1952) Lisbon, on 09/23/21; Dorte Mandrup-Poulsen, (1961) Copenhagen, 28/10/21; Cristina Guedes, (1964) Porto, 11/18/21; Johan Arrhov, (1979) Stockholm, 04/12/21.
Also on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Academy, 2 round tables will be held:
• on 14/10/21 The 3 directors of the three Swiss architecture faculties Walter Angonese, ARC-USI, Prof. Dieter Dietz, ENAC-EPFL and Prof. Tom Emerson, DARCH-ETHZ will talk about the future of architecture schools in Switzerland.
• on 17/11/21 the architects Esteban Bonell (Barcelona), Mario Botta (Mendrisio) and Roger Diener (Basel) will talk about the work of the architect Aurelio Galferri on the occasion of the publication of the volume ‘Aurelio Galfetti. Building the space ‘
The exhibitions at the Mendrisio Architecture Theater
To celebrate the 25th anniversary, the Academy of Architecture also has 2 exhibitions at the Mendrisio Architecture Theater.
1 “Architecture that makes school”, dedicated to the teaching and research activities of the Academy
2 “Project and Prophecy. The future according to the architects “, which refers to an idea of” operational future “which architects take on each time in their vision and design forecast.
The exhibitions will remain open until December 24, 2021.
About the Mendrisio Academy of Architecture
It was founded in Mendrisio in 1996, as a constituent component of the University of Italian Switzerland. The school was born on the basis of the project developed on a political commission by the architect Mario Bott. Today the Academy of Architecture is internationally recognized. With over 800 enrolled students and teachers from 40 different nationalities it has become a unique place of cultural exchange in the Swiss and European context.
