What are the changes in the world of tourism? Cathay Pacific, a Hong Kong airline, involved 150 Italian Travel Experts to carry out a survey in order to understand how the Covid-19 emergency is impacting the propensity to travel. That is a mirror on the habits and choices of travelers. The future of the travel industry is uncertain, what was ordinary until a few months ago is now tinged with new shades. Awareness, sustainability, discovery: according to the Cathay Pacific study, these will be the three directions on which the travel sector is evolving.
What emerged from the responses of the panel, made up of journalists, reporters, travel bloggers, tour operators and travel managers, is that “travel will no longer be the same” (89%) and that the new normal will look elsewhere.
#Awareness – Travelers will pay much more attention to their choices (62%)
Awareness at 360 degrees, according to the results of Cathay Pacific travelers will carefully evaluate the destination to visit (40%), the frequency of trips (38%) and the choice of the means of transport with less impact (17%). The gap between the figure of the ‘tourist’ and that of the ‘traveler’ will also increase, the major brands of hospitality, the airline sector, etc. will be awarded. who will adopt social responsibility policies (54%) and high safety standards.
# Sustainability – New rhythms of life
The lockdown forced them to change their rhythms making them slower and more sustainable. A new sensitivity towards nature that will also affect the way of traveling. When booking, travelers will prefer alternative and less polluting means where possible (46%) and will reward the carriers who are most committed, but concretely, to safeguarding the environment (65%).
#Discovery – Desire for novelty
The desire is only one: to plan the next trip. 95% of the interviewees therefore have clear ideas, and what’s more, this stop to which we are all forced, will lead regular and occasional travelers to rediscover and appreciate even more the feeling of freedom linked to the act of traveling ( 72%) to discover and learn about new countries with their customs.
