The Rebirth of Lungarno Acciaiuoli, the historical walk in the heart of Florence
Following the requalification of Lungarno Acciaiuoli, the stretch on the right bank of the Arno which connects Ponte Santa Trinita with Ponte Vecchio has been restored to its original state.
The Lungarno refurbishment was financed in part by Lungarno Alberghi Srl– the hotel management company owned by the Ferragamo family – jointly with Palazzo Feroni Finanziaria, through a liberal Art-Bonus contribution, with the total cost of construction amounting to over one million euros.
The restoration involved the complete relaying of stone instead of the previous asphalt, as well as the widening of the sidewalk: the roadway was realized using Alberese stone, the same as that already present in Via Tornabuoni, and the sidewalks in sandstone blaze. The intervention also improved the underground utilities (aqueduct, sewer, gas and telecommunication), as well as the new public lighting.
The construction site lasted a little over eight months, considering the stoppages and difficulties in supplying materials caused by the Covid-19 health emergency.
“This project – underlines the mayor Dario Nardella – was conceived in a very difficult moment for the city, shortly after the collapse of Lungarno Torrigiani. It was a challenge for us: on the one hand we had a wounded city, on the other the desire to start again, to demonstrate that the valorization and maintenance of our roads are among our priorities. Now we come to the end of this construction site after we have been afflicted, worldwide, by a terrible pandemic: we also see this as a sign to restart, indeed an essential step in our plan for the rebirth of the city. Here, a stone’s throw from Ponte Vecchio, we demonstrate that it is possible to invest in Florence and that the public-private partnership is a desirable form of sustenance that can help the city to recover. We thank Leonardo Ferragamo who once again has shown that he has the city at heart, its artistic heritage, its beauty “.
‘It is an honor for me and for my family to support this city and thus reaffirm the special bond that has always grounded us; – states Leonardo Ferragamo – Florence was chosen by my father because it was full of extraordinary history and culture with its protagonists who created this culture and with the craftsmen who made his ideas and dreams take shape. Florence for almost a hundred years has been the city of my family, my birthplace as well as that of my brothers and sisters, who has accompanied us amid ideals of beauty and culture of ambition and pride”
“I feel proud as an ambassador of Florence – Ferragamo concludes – and I will do everything to support it, in alliance and in synergy with the local administration to demonstrate how this virtuous combination is a truly unmissable chance for the country “.
